About the Symposium 

For the first time, the V Symposium on Agricultural and Agroindustrial Wastes and the IX International Symposium on Agricultural and Agroindustrial Waste Management will be held jointly.  

The previous edition of the Symposium on Agricultural and Agroindustrial Wastes, organized by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), received support from numerous public institutions and private companies. It was held in the city of Mendoza (Argentina), under the motto «Towards rational waste management,» drawing over 350 participants from academia, government, and business sectors nationwide. 

Meanwhile, the VIII International Symposium on Agricultural and Agroindustrial Waste Management (Simpósio Internacional sobre Gerenciamento de Resíduos Agropecuários e Agroindustriais – SIGERA VIII), organized by the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBERA), took place in Caxias do Sul (Brazil), under the theme «Science as the basis for development.»  

In this new edition, the joint celebration of both Symposiums in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, will contribute to the collaboration among academia, private and governmental sectors in circular economy principles and sub-products valorization. The main aim is to promote the adoption of innovative techniques and technologies that minimize environmental impact in the agri-food chain production 

Objetives 

  • To communicate scientific advances and experiences in agro-bio-industrial waste management and valorization. 

  • To promote innovation and sustainability among circular economy principles and sector competitiveness. 

  • To provide a platform for the discussion and alignment of public policies related to waste valorization initiatives. 

  • To encourage networking and collaboration among relevant institutions and social actors for waste valorization.

  1. Waste Management and Treatment Technologies  

  • Agricultural and agro-industrial waste treatment, including biological, chemical, and physical processes.   

  • Innovation and integration of technologies and good practices in waste management.   

  1. Waste Valorization  

  • Agricultural and agro-industrial waste by-products (e.g., bio-energy, bio-inputs, bio-materials, animal feed).

  1. Environmental Impact and Sustainability

  • Agricultural and agro-industrial waste environmental impact assessment.   

  • Carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategies.   

  • Metrics for agroindustrial and agricultural production systems evaluation (e.g. life cycle analysis)  

  1. Circular Economy and Regulatory Frameworks    

  • Circular economy case studies (e.g. business models, added value chains, public policy implementation, triple-impact programs).   

  • Regulations and public policies for the regulation and promotion of agricultural and agroindustrial waste management.
