Leads a research group in wastewater treatment processes, focusing on biogas, digestate nutrients removal/recovery and water reuse. His work includes process development and arrangement for animal wastewater treatment processes (AWTPs) including anaerobic digestion processes development for residues codigestion with energy crops, recovering of P (struvite and Ca₃ (PO₄)₂ ) removal/recovery of N (anammox, nitrification/denitrification, membrane processes) and water microbiological quality for reuse. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers in international journals (h-index 39, >5700 citations) and co-authored 25 book chapters.
